Finding Funding to Maintain Our First Class Facilities and Programs

The Friends of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Foundation raises money to fund Programs, Facilities and Events that would not fit into the city’s budget. Unlike most North Shore park districts, Lake Forest Parks and Recreation do not get their funding through taxes. Therefore, it must rely on an allocation from the City budget for funding. Given rising costs, competing needs of the City and constrained tax dollars, the funds distributed to the Department of Parks and Recreation are sometimes not enough to maintain our consistently excellent facilities and programs. The goal of Friends is to make sure there are enough funding for well managed, broadly used, community assets. Funds are raised annually through the Membership Drive, Corporate Sponsorship, the Fred Jackson Golf Classic as well as the July 4th Festival and Fireworks.
